Aaron Kinsey was elected to serve District 15 of the Texas State Board of Education in November 2022 and was appointed Chair of the board by Gov. Abbott in December 2023. He was re-elected in November 2024.

Kinsey, a lifelong Conservative, is the CEO of American Patrols, a post he has held since leading a buyout of the Midland-based aviation company. During his tenure, he has overseen the company’s 20x growth.  His previous experience includes management of a $450 million San Antonio-based commercial real estate company.

As the first in his family to graduate from college, Aaron understands the importance of education and its power to change lives.

A graduate of Canton High School, Aaron excelled during his time at Texas A&M University, earning a 4.0 GPA and receiving the Gathright Scholar Award (scholastic achievement) and the Buck Weirus Spirit Award for student involvement. Kinsey served as the Deputy Commander of the Corps, Election Commissioner, and was a member of the Mays Business Fellows. Through the Professional Program in Accounting, he received a BBA in Accounting and an MS in Finance.

Upon graduation, Kinsey received a commission in the US Air Force. During his nine-plus years in the Air Force, Aaron was a pilot, flying 120 combat missions in the C-130. Also during his service, he taught pilot training and the instructor pilot course. Following active duty, he earned his MBA from Harvard Business School, an experience that further developed his business leadership skills and honed his ability to defend conservative principles.

Kinsey's mission is to fight for children and stand alongside parents in order to strengthen families and improve educational outcomes across the state of Texas.

During his time as SBOE Chair, Kinsey has overseen the implementation of HB 1605 (88R) aimed at increasing Texas student access to High-Quality Instructional Materials. Aaron serves on the SBOE’s School Finance/Permanent School Fund (SF/PSF) Committee and as a board appointee to the $58 billion PSF Corporation. At the PSF Corporation, he serves as Board Secretary and the chair of the Committee on Strategic Planning and Policy.

Aaron is happily married to Katelyn, a proud member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas who can trace her family lineage back to the Alamo and the Come and Take It cannon. They have been blessed with three children: Barrett, Charles, and Isabel. The Kinsey family proudly calls Midland, Texas home.
