Hailing from Southwest Atlanta, Georgia, Staci "Honey" Childs is a dynamic multi-hyphenate artist, educator, attorney, and public servant. Known for her resilience and creativity, Staci is deeply rooted in the culture. Raised on the shoulders of civil rights leaders, entrepreneurs, and servant leaders, Staci’s journey has always been guided by a passion for community and creativity.

Staci’s love for education began in 5th grade when she won her school’s spelling bee, igniting her love for learning and competition. She carried that passion into the classroom, where she thrived as a 4th and 5th-grade teacher. Known for her creativity, humor, and high expectations, Staci was honored as one of Houston Independent School District’s Teachers of the Year in 2019.

A graduate of Hampton University, Georgia State University, and Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Staci has also left her mark on national education policy, blending her professional expertise with a deep commitment to equity. During President Obama’s administration, she worked as a staffer at the White House for the Domestic Policy Council’s Education Team, where she cherished the opportunity to hold hands with Michelle Obama and host a concert for teachers at the White House.

In addition to her work in education, Staci "Honey" Childs is an accomplished attorney who provides compassionate legal advocacy for her clients. Her courtroom victories include helping young fathers regain custody of their children and supporting young parents in adopting siblings during challenging times. She founded Sunnyside Legal to educate and guide individuals through their toughest moments.

An artist at heart, Staci is also an emerging voice in writing, music, and film. She is the author of "Her Beautiful Day" which inspires young people to reach for their highest dreams.  Under her stage name, "Honey Childs" she brings a powerful blend of lyricism and storytelling to her music, captivating audiences with her unique sound. Her foray into filmmaking has been impactful—her debut film, i don’t even know me yet, documents her journey to elected office and has won 17 film festival awards worldwide.

Staci’s passion for history and storytelling extends to her web series, “History Not Taught,” which highlights the untold stories of Black Americans in the United States and abroad. The series has amassed over 6.5 million views to date across social media platforms and still counting!

Elected to the Texas State Board of Education in 2022 and re-elected in 2024, she represents District 4, advocating for students in central, northeast, and southeast Houston, as well as parts of Galveston County. In her free time, Staci enjoys performing live music, traveling, and connecting with her community. Whether she’s brunching with her best girlfriends or spending quality time with her fur-son, Boseman—named after Chadwick Boseman—Staci’s love for life shines through in everything she does.

Staci's journey exemplifies her belief in the power of storytelling and service to inspire change and create a better future for all, including students who are often overlooked and underserved.
