Nominations Open to Honor Texas School Volunteers
State Board of Education Seeks Nominations for 2025 Heroes for Children Award
AUSTIN, Texas – May 20, 2025 – The State Board of Education (SBOE) is accepting nominations for the 2025 Heroes for Children Award, which honors exceptional volunteers who make a lasting impact in Texas public schools.
For over three decades, the Heroes for Children Award has recognized remarkable individuals across Texas whose outstanding volunteer services have helped shape the futures of public school students. Last year’s recipients included community members who led parent-teacher organizations, advocated for educational improvements, promoted literacy and mentored students as they planned for life after graduation.
Each year, the SBOE selects 15 Texans, one from each member’s district, to be recognized as heroes. Any Texas resident who gives time, effort and support to public schools and students, except elected officials and educational employees, can be nominated for the Heroes for Children award.
Nominations close July 11, 2025, at 5 p.m. (CDT). Honorees will be celebrated at an SBOE general meeting in Austin.
More information is available in the nomination guidelines.
