Board Term: Jan. 1, 2023 - Jan. 1, 2027

Evelyn Brooks is the Texas State Board of Education representative for District 14.

Brooks has extensive experience educating and helping youth to develop a Biblical worldview, challenging them to strive for excellence, to think independently, and to develop self-discipline and self-control. She has encouraged students to master facts  while at the same time discovering their own individual talents and aspirations.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Bowie State University and began her teaching career in Maryland, Prince George’s County as a first-grade teacher. Brooks taught for Denver Public Schools for five years before teaching in Fairfax County Public Schools. She served as a substitute teacher in Texas for Lewisville ISD and has extensive experience as a homeschooler.

Brooks has been a homemaker, a classroom teacher, a tutor, a Bible teacher, the founder of a private school, an orchestrator of a STEM science camp, and a youth development facilitator.

Currently, Brooks serves on the Children’s Chorus of Collin County Board, president of the Waterford Falls Home Owners Association Board, Beauman’s 2nd Chance 4 Change Advisory Board, Life Talk Advisory Board, and as a facilitator for the Foundation for CHOICE. She also works with youth in the West Dallas Public Schools.

She has been happily married to Brian Brooks for 20 years; and together with their two daughters, Ashlynn and Brianna, they help to minister to a needy community in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Brooks is committed to making decisions for students that fulfill the mission, objectives and goals of Texas public education. That mission is to ensure that all children have access to a quality education which is grounded on the preservation of the liberties and rights of citizens and is free from indoctrination.

Her promise is to protect the innocence of children by carefully selecting and voting in favor of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum standards and the aligned curriculum materials that promote and maintain the morals and standards of Texas families. Further, Brooks will strive to be available to her constituents in District 14 so that the unheard can be heard. She looks forward to working cooperatively with members of the Texas State Board of Education, the Texas Commissioner of Education, and the Texas Education Agency to ensure that these outcomes are fulfilled.

Brooks represents constituents from the following counties: Bosque, Clay, Comanche, Coryell, Eastland, Ellis, Erath, Hamilton, Hill, Jack,  McLennan, Mills, Montague, Navarro, Palo Pinto, Wise, and parts of Dallas, Denton, and Johnson counties.
